Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8 years of experience in Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS) or Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) techniques.
- Experience working within a high-throughput investigative laboratory environment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or a related engineering field.
- Experience in High Resolution-Accurate Mass Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) or Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS) techniques for small molecule analysis.
- Experience in technical leadership, project management, and executive communication.
- Knowledge of investigative software suites including Agilent’s Masshunter, Thermoscientific’s XCalibur, and Compound Discoverer.

The Biocompatibility Development team, located in San Francisco, is dedicated to the creation of innovative products. We hold responsibility for ensuring the skin friendly of our products throughout their entire lifecycle, from initial conception to final disposition. Furthermore, we oversee all hardware products within the Devices and Services organization, managing them from initial production ramp-up to their eventual end-of-life.
Laboratory exercises will necessitate the application of comprehensive knowledge and expertise in chromatography and high-resolution accurate mass spectrometry for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of known and unknown small molecules. Advanced data interpretation skills will also be required.
In addition to addressing complex unknown chemical analysis challenges and formulating investigative methodologies, the individual will also engage in strategic partnerships and collaborations with a cross-functional team comprising Chemists, Scientists, Toxicologists, and Material/Design Engineers. Your expertise is required to realize the ambitious objectives.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $138,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Conduct investigative sample preparation utilizing various wet chemistry methodologies.
- Execute high-throughput analysis of unidentified small molecules via GC/MS, LC/MS, and LC/MS-MS systems.
- Perform rigorous qualitative and quantitative data analysis and interpretation, formulate conclusions based on experimental outcomes, and propose supplementary analyses for result validation.
- Develop sophisticated investigative methods and maintain instrumentation to guarantee data integrity and the excellent quality of laboratory operations.
- Provide clear and concise communication regarding sample testing progress and resolve any operational challenges to ensure timely completion and adherence to established milestones.
