Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with leadership and management prowess in guiding engineering teams in dynamic environments.
- Knowledge of data management and processing technologies, including SQL, query engines, and infrastructure.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.
In this role, you will manage a team of engineers, work closely with product managers and program managers, providing technical leadership and guidance with other engineering leads across Core Data to deliver efficient, automated, and reliable tools and infrastructure, maximizing the impact for IR.
The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of engineers focused on developing and maintaining a suite of tools designed to enhance the developer experience of the information retrieval system.
Mentor and coach engineers on the team, fostering their professional growth and development. - Guide the team in employing data-driven approaches to identify and define critical metrics that measure and improve the developer experience, developer productivity, and reliability of Core Data products.
- Oversee collaboration with Core Data pillars to identify and prioritize developer experience and productivity challenges.
- Lead the design and implementation of solutions such as tooling, frameworks, and best practices to address these challenges.
- Ensure the team maintains and evolves existing tools and infrastructure to meet ongoing developer needs.
Stay informed on the latest trends in developer experience and data management to guide the team's direction.
