Supplier Development Engineer, Mechanical Operations

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in Manufacturing or Quality.
  • Experience in vendor management and end-to-end part quality, encompassing manufacturing process Critical to Quality (CTQ) identification, quality control plan development and execution, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience in launching high volume projects.
  • Experience in mechanical part manufacturing processes: Computer Numerical Control machining, molding, polishing, PVD, sandblasting, anodization, and sub-assembly.
  • Skilled in executing process capability studies, reviewing 2D drawings, creating quality control plans, and conducting cosmetic yield studies.
  • Proficient with mechanical measurement systems, including developing MTD, CMM/OMM, 3D scanning, fixture design, GRR, and automated inspection.
  • Proven success in qualifying tooling, CNC cells, and assembly lines, driving yield improvements during ramp-up.
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Design, Industrial Design, Project Management, Reliability, Product Operations to deliver Google Hardware products to market. 
  • Use statistical process control, yield studies to validate process capability (SPC/Cp/Cpk), work alongside our suppliers to qualify processes per approved DFM, and drive process improvements in partnership with cross-functional teams. 
  • Set up the quality control plan, ensure approved measurement SOPs are implemented, ensure correlation between sites, and track down the root cause of measurement discrepancies in IQC to ensure the smooth flow of parts into contract manufacturers.
  • Be the go­-to person for material quality/reliability issues at FATP/IQC/Supplier. Identify and highlight manufacturability issues to ensure stable product quality and predictable supply during ramp.
  • Own supplier’s quality, drive MIL (Master Issue List)/quality improvement for quality, yield, and cost.
