  • Experience with on-device development (Android, Kotlin) and working further up the stack.
  • Understanding of LLMs / supporting systems to support research efforts in the health space.
  • Strong communication skills to distill problems cross-functionally in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
  • Interest in health and wellness and how devices can help users further their goals.

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. In this role, you will be working alongside other Software Engineers and Research Scientists to prototype, experiment, and enable new AI experiences that we can then rapidly ship to internal testers and iterate quickly on. You will create infrastructure that can make this iteration easier, including enabling automatic evaluation where possible and developing extensible software modules that can aid the entire team move faster. Knowledge of AI/ML is key to working with research scientists and ensuring that we have the proper working model to accelerate the development of these agents. As part of the Health Intelligence organization, you will partner with product management, engineering, and many other cross-functional teams (clinical, privacy, security) to ensure we are rapidly iterating towards developing the best possible experience for our users.

The Platforms and Ecosystems product area encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications). The products provide enterprises, and ultimately end users, the ability to utilize and manage their services at scale. We build innovative and compelling software products—from apps to TVs, from laptops to phones—that have an impact on people’s lives across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop our on-device strategy (e.g., LLM, ML sensing, Live) for Platforms and Devices (P&D's) health agent.
  • Build interface to new agent tasks in conjunction with research scientists, utilizing internal libraries (e.g. OneTwo).
  • Develop and maintain evaluation pipelines and methodologies for testing various qualities, such as accuracy and tone/factuality in the case of LLMs.
  • Work to quickly deliver agents into the testing environment and enable the larger team to interact with them.
  • Work with Research Scientists to understand current state-of-the-art methods for working with LLMs, next-gen on-device models, and various tools to improve outputs.
