Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience troubleshooting/failure analysis.
- Experience with consumer electronics products and technologies.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or a related engineering field.
- Experience with standard focus area tools, including: microscopes, multimeters, and oscilloscopes at least one of the following: X-ray/CT, SEM+ EDS, mechanical cross sectioning.
- Excellent project management, people management, and organizational skills.
About the job
As a Failure Analysis Engineer, you will be a key player in the complete product life-cycle. You will provide insight to the design team for design risks by performing tear-downs of prototype devices, based on lessons learned from previous experience. You will perform failure analysis of both development units and field returns by working with manufacturing partners and cross-functional engineering teams to identify root cause and implement corrective actions. You will also work with the product safety team to identify and resolve any product safety claims.
Responsibilities
- Minimize failures experienced by customers.
- Reproduce and analyze field failures to understand failure mechanism and root cause.
- Ensure materials and failure analysis capabilities required to support whole device screening (Level 1) and module level (Level 2) failure analysis are in place.
- Work with the cross-functional teams to take field failures from root cause identification through corrective action.
- Understand factory Outgoing Quality Control (OQC) process and work on improving any gaps, based on field returns, that could result in customer failures.
