Software Engineering Manager II, Experimentation and Instrumentation

  • 8 years of experience with front-end frameworks, full-stack development, and API development.
  • 3 years of experience in data analytics.

  • 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience in a leadership role focused on data analytics, including experience in logging, metrics analysis, and data processing.
  • 5 years of experience with designing experiments, developing statistical models, measurement, and identifying business opportunities.
  • Experience managing teams that engage in data processing.

In this role, you will focus on building an effective team and drive experimentation and metrics investments.

From pre-computed summaries for email threads, summaries for meetings, and videos created from a document using lifelike AI avatars, our AI opportunity is huge. You will work with model builders (Google DeepMind), work with exceptional leaders, and have the ability to impact billions of users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Build a strong data infrastructure and metrics culture to drive higher velocity in Generative AI (GenAI) feature exploration and business critical decisions.
  • Provide organizational leadership and manage team members focused on solving Gmail’s experimentation and metrics needs.
  • Partner with team leads to develop technical roadmaps for solving data needs for Gmail. Meet future requirements and infrastructure needs for stakeholders such as executives, data science, engineering, product managers, UX researchers, and cross-team partners.
  • Identify problems and translate them into solutions and investments to expand the team’s charter and responsibilities. Work across organizational boundaries to ensure end-to-end success of the investments. 
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency). Collaborate across teams and advocate for best development practices for Gmail.
