About the job
Google's custom-designed machines make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this cutting-edge equipment is reliable. In the R&D lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and reliability.
Google’s Cloud Supply Chain and Operations (CSCO) team is seeking a System Verification Engineer to validate Hardware Design, Software Tooling and Process Workflows for the next generation of primarily L10/L11 systems. In this role, you will own verification strategy and drive test execution across a portfolio of projects, ranging from network switches to machine learning pods. The primary goal is to reduce time and cost for L10/L11 installation, maintenance, and repairs.
In order to achieve the goal, you will interface with stakeholders from the Data center, Manufacturing and Product Design to identify and validate operational risks. You will influence new platform architectures through technical insights that mitigate risks found during validation tests. You will collaborate with Hardware and Software Test Engineers to build in-house competence in Design for Operations.
The AI and Infrastructure team is redefining what’s possible. We empower Google customers with breakthrough capabilities and insights by delivering AI and Infrastructure at unparalleled scale, efficiency, reliability and velocity. Our customers include Googlers, Google Cloud customers, and billions of Google users worldwide.
We're the driving force behind Google's groundbreaking innovations, empowering the development of our cutting-edge AI models, delivering unparalleled computing power to global services, and providing the essential platforms that enable developers to build the future. From software to hardware our teams are shaping the future of world-leading hyperscale computing, with key teams working on the development of our TPUs, Vertex AI for Google Cloud, Google Global Networking, Data Center operations, systems research, and much more.
Responsibilities
- Validate New Product Introduction (NPI) systems against technical requirements that span the journey of an L10/L11 system from the datacenter loading dock to installation to production to decommissioning.
- Author detailed, product tailored test plans based on datacenter-centric insights into product design, software tools and process workflows. Create, modify, or deprecate verification tests that reflect changes to the technical requirements.
- Author detailed test reports with the risk to the product and recommended risk mitigation steps. Ensure on time delivery of test cases while gathering critical data and documenting test life-cycle.
- Identify and implement opportunities for leveraging automation wherever possible to ensure the execution of test and report processes.
- Communicate product risks uncovered by the verification tests to a cross-functional team of engineers. Utilize established channels to communicate test updates, project trade-offs, technical recommendations, and escalations.
