About the job

The Senior Research Scientist role focuses on pathfinding of practical leading techniques for quantum computations on Google’s processors.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between theoretical quantum protocols and real-world quantum computing by creating methods that accelerate and enhance performance on noisy quantum processors, and on early Quantum Error Correction (QEC) systems in the future. This includes theory, numerical modeling, and optimization of existing approaches and pioneering new ones for multi-stage quantum experiments to evolve. The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Responsibilities

  • Research and develop methods for high-accuracy quantum computation on noisy practical systems, encompassing error mitigation, suppression, and robust quantum protocols. This involves developing theory, performing numerical modeling and simulations, and collaborating closely with experiments.
  • Validate and stress-test work in practical scenarios used by users and practitioners.
  • Collaborate effectively across theoretical and experimental teams to disseminate knowledge and facilitate technology transfer and development.
  • Innovate, patent, and publish research findings in peer-reviewed publications and present at conferences.
