Senior Technical Program Manager I, Optical Networking, Google Cloud

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in program management.
  • Experience in network infrastructure, architecture, and design of optical networks, as well as hardware/software development lifecycles.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Experience working with external vendors on technical deliverables.
  • Experience with data-motivated selection-making, ability to drive a technical program from ideation to operational delivery in a changing environment.
  • Understanding of network infrastructure, Optical transceiver technologies, Optical transmission technologies, Optical communication system architecture and management and hardware/software development lifecycles.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, manage shifting requirements, and prioritize effectively with sense of accountability, bias for action, manage without authority and test the status quo.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate optical networking concepts and designs to various audiences.

You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $183,000-$271,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage comprehensive execution plans, including scope, schedules, milestones, and risk management for vendor feature development and releases.
  • Serve as the central program manager for all optical networking initiatives. Align strategies and execution with key partners like Routing, Core, Edge and Data Center Networking.
  • Drive the entire lifecycle of optical programs, from ideation to the productionalization of optical technologies and workflows.
  • Identify technical and schedule risks, develop mitigation strategies, and escalate critical issues. Take ownership of the product life cycle (PLC) for all optical NPIs.
  • Provide clear, concise, and consistent updates on program health, roadmaps for all stakeholders, including executive leadership. Partner with Optical Networking Technical Leads to provide feedback on network designs across data, control, and management planes, as well as on hardware standards, efficiency, and reliability considerations.
