Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 12 years of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes.
- 12 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of work experience in consumer product design.
- Experience in electro-mechanical components such as audio, display, camera, antenna, waterproofing, thermals, grounding, system integration or product architecture.
- Experience shipping multiple consumer products in a lead, executive staff or principal engineer role.
- Experience working with global suppliers on part manufacturing and final assembly, including onsite factory support.
- Knowledge in multiple manufacturing methods used in consumer products.
About the job
As a part of the Lead Product Architect for Hearables, you will identify, integrate and validate new technologies to shape future pixel devices. You will collaborate with industrial designers and product managers to drive early product definitions and navigate engineering tradeoffs across antennas, sensors, silicon and batteries. You will balance design, performance and comfort while partnering with global New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to bring products to market and support continuous improvement for next-generation devices.The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.Responsibilities
- Balance broad exploration and intuitive plausibility to define early product concepts while prototyping design options for comfort and fit to achieve optimal implementations.
- Drive multi-year technology development in collaboration with peer Product Architecture Leads, while communicating key updates to leadership and building consensus on optimal paths forward.
- Collaborates with Product Management and Industrial Design on initial tradeoff spaces for new products and iterate rapidly to surface compelling propositions for next-generation devices.
- Anticipate product-level tradeoffs such as battery life, cost, reliability, antenna performance and industrial design.
- Inspire cross-functional teams with a clear product goal for solving technical issues, while partnering with NPI engineering leadership to smoothly transition new product architectures into commercialization.
