Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 years of experience in policy analysis and campaigns, working on technology issues or the policy environments that surround them.
- 7 years of experience working within government, think tanks, public interest groups, technology industry groups, or corporate public policy organizations.
- Ability to communicate in Korean and English fluently to support client relationship management.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience advising and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to design and deliver exceptional work product.
- Experience discerning the priorities and activities of government officials and track record of impacting legislation and other governmental outcomes.
- Knowledge of current and emerging public policy trends relating to online content platforms, child safety and privacy, and technology generally.
- Understanding of YouTube’s primary product offerings and their intersection with the public policy environment.
- Exceptional analytical skills, including in assessing and negotiating regulatory or legislative proposals and texts, and ability to operate proactively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong and effective communicator and humble ambassador.
About the job
As the Government Affairs & Public Policy Manager and Lead for YouTube in Korea, you will be the lead ambassador for YouTube’s issues and interest with policymakers and key opinion formers in the market. You will be an expert in the policy environment affecting YouTube’s business operations in the market. You will coordinate with the Government Affairs Public Policy team (GAPP) to understand the policy issues which affect YouTube’s business operations and develop strategies to protect YouTube’s interests. You'll keep the regional and global YouTube GAPP team updated on emerging risks and help develop strategies for how to address them. In addition, you will be the primary point of contact for the GAPP team with YouTube’s business leadership team around political issues, campaigns, and engagement.
Responsibilities
- Lead YouTube’s Public Policy engagement in Korea by serving as an ambassador for YouTube’s interests to policymakers and key opinion formers. Be the primary point of contact for the Government Affairs and Public Policy team on YouTube strategy, campaigns, and engagement in Korea.
- Engage with YouTube leadership and cross-functional teams to develop public policy strategy, campaigns, and engagement within Korea.
- Be a thought leader in how YouTube operates within the Korean political context and advise YouTube teams on how to get ahead and drive favorable policy and regulatory outcomes.
- Build and manage a network of key senior stakeholders and influencer relationships to help shape a positive public and political dialogue and regulatory environment.
- Improve YouTube’s external reputation, deepen understanding of the product, and achieve public policy goals.
