Staff Software Engineer, Data Lakehouse

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 5 years of experience in leading technical project strategy, Machine Learning (ML) design, and optimizing ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).
  • 5 years of experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) concepts and algorithms, and experience in designing NLP solutions.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. In this role, you will foster increases in developer and analysis velocity, overall performance, and integrating related data journeys such as discovery, authoring, governance, data quality, productionalization, and safety. This will be achieved with a mix of traditional data infrastructure and A.I. driven data assets development and analysis. While leading the development of the Data Lakehouse, you will also also continues to enhance and support the existing Metric Definition System (MDS) and Core Data Warehouse.

As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design and implement cross system user journeys that connect multiple data analysis functionalities, discovery, data preparation, analysis, observability, productionalization, etc.
  • Improve velocity of and simplify the user journeys with the help of latest A.I. advancements.
  • Design and implement system integrations across existing products, including Plx, SQL pipelines, Data Engineering Console, to support the new user journeys.
  • Lead design, code, design and code reviews, and proposing solutions to challenging and ambiguous problems.
  • Suggest new or change existing processes to improve engineering efficiency and quality for the team.
