Director, Engineering, Geo Automotive Google

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in the software industry, with 5 years of technical management experience.
  • 5 years of experience working with or for Auto OEMs in software programs.
  • Experience building large-scale client platforms that power business and user use cases.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with machine learning, on-device models/infrastructure and applying privacy frameworks to design privacy-forward systems.
  • Understanding of how infotainment and ADAS systems are built.
  • Demonstrated organizational leadership, with the ability to partner effectively across teams and cross-functional boundaries.
  • Proven success leading teams at scale, including growing engineering talent and fostering healthy engineering organizations.
  • Track record of driving initiatives from strategy to execution to address open-ended, ambiguous problems.

People rely on Geo services to explore the real world and navigate their daily lives. Understanding where users are in the world is a critical core service that helps Geo build an accurate and rich model of the world and how people move within it. We’re looking for a technical engineering leader with automotive domain expertise to take Geo’s auto data platform to the next level, responding to the needs of our OEM partners, and our other auto focused product development teams.

As the Director of Engineering you will drive the strategy and execution for a portfolio of software assets that underpin all of Geo’s Automotive offerings, and that integrate deeply into vehicle architectures. You will do this with a team of highly skilled engineering teams, partnering with colleagues in product, program management, legal, and privacy.

The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.

The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $294,000-$414,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers spanning client/server infrastructure, ML models/perception, data pipelines, tools, data interfaces, feature development, and data analytics.
  • Develop the strategy and drive execution for business-critical efforts requiring strong partnership across teams (Android, Front-end Development, Partner Engineering) and functions (Program Management, Legal, Privacy, BD).
  • Build and maintain a network of relationships with peer software engineering leadership in OEMs, supporting their evaluation and use of Geo technology.
  • Inspire and grow a team of engineering leaders to collaborate as “one team.”
