Global Supply Chain Manager, Mechanical

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management.
  • Experience in mechanical category or commodity management, contract negotiation and supplier development.
  • Experience in building/optimizing cost models and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a technical or engineering field or MBA.
  • 5 years of experience in managing and sourcing for highly cosmetic mechanical components, including thermoformed plastic/composites, glass, ceramics, CNC machined parts, and back cover assemblies.
  • Excellent communication, people, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line.

In this role, you will work on the supply chain for mechanical parts for fast-paced consumer devices and lead the sourcing strategy, selection, capital investment, and commercial discussisons of suppliers for Mechanical commodities of Google hardware devices. You will work cross-functionally to develop innovative, responsive, and sustainable supply chain solutions that enable high quality and helpful products developed in partnership with our Engineering teams. You will use your industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global supply chain, develop should cost models and manage supply chain risk through all phases of product development in support of our quickly growing Google hardware business.

Responsibilities

  • Drive all aspects of the commercial and contractual engagement with our global mechanical supply base. Manage overall Mechanical material spend and related capital investments, develop and execute global supply chain strategies.
  • Manage suppliers to ensure production readiness, assurance of supply, and overall quality in support of NPI builds and sustaining operations.
  • Drive close partnerships with internal partners including Engineering, Marketing, and Operations to drive innovative, cost effective, and high quality solutions that support our overall product launch and sustainability goals.
  • Manage supply chain risk while creating flexible and responsive supply chain solutions. Drive cost reductions with should cost model and influence partners for cost effective supply chain solutions.
