Software Engineering Manager, GBO Engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math or related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience in software Development.
  • 5 years of experience building and testing enterprise software using cloud system architectures.
  • 2 years of experience building, developing, and leading teams of engineers as a Technical Lead or Manager.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Site Reliability Engineering, Information Security, or DevOps practices.
  • Experience partnering with Product, UX and extended workforce solutions on product roadmap planning and delivery.
  • Experience leading, designing web applications or data infrastructure in a startup or fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with API design, TypeScript, Java, Kotlin, Python or Go.
  • Experience building and managing teams of engineers.
  • Experience in SQL across standard relational environments.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

In this role, you will serve as an experienced technical leader delivering high-quality solutions by leveraging Google technologies to guide the development of production web applications and data infrastructure through testable and maintainable code, while using your relationship building and influencing skills to collaborate cross-functionally with sales and marketing teams to meet user ends, drive business efficiency, ensure seamless product experience for Googlers and partners, and mentor team members to support their growth while actively shaping a collaborative team culture built on respect, efficiency and psychological safety.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the team by setting clear expectations, providing regular performance feedback, and mentoring engineers to support their growth while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
  • Drive technical excellence by guiding the team in building scalable, reliable and high-quality software, empowering technology leads and ensuring best practices.
  • Own project execution by defining clear goals, prioritizing effectively and organizing the team for successful, timely delivery of impactful software.
  • Build a product goal by collaborating to define and evolve the product roadmap.
  • Help the team and organization by improving team operations, processes and hiring to build an engineering team while ensuring sound architecture, thoughtful code reviews, and technical decisions that align with long-term goals and working with technical leaders on the team.
