Software Engineering Manager II, Google Cloud Business Platform

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and data pipelines.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience with technologies such as BigQuery, Spanner, Flume, and in programming languages like Java, C++, or Go.
  • Experience with financial or billing systems, particularly within a cloud environment and in data processing, streaming.
  • Experience leading teams through organizational shifts and managing products and team boundaries with the understanding of data quality, data governance, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to drive architectural changes and integrate disparate systems to balance short-term deliverables with long-term investments and technical goals.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

In this role, you will be managing the Attribution team. You will lead a strong team through significant architectural transformations. Our organizational boundaries are dynamic and evolving, especially with strategic initiatives like Attribution Platformization, and Consolidated Business Generation etc. These efforts aim to unify and optimize our pre-monetizer architecture, providing a "one front door" goal for billing data, and ensuring a consistent and flexible approach to metadata enrichment, usage-based adjustments, and translation from resource to billing space. You will be shaping the future of Cloud Billing's core data pipelines and their integral role in Google Cloud's continued expansion.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of talented software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and execute the technical roadmap for Cloud Billing's attribution platform, unifying and optimizing systems from batch to streaming processes.
  • Implement strategies for operational scaling across customers, products, and regions. Focus on improving automated error correction and refining tooling for usage and monetizer corrections, ensuring system robustness and data accuracy for compliance.
  • Identify, prioritize, and lead efforts to strategically address technical debt through re-architecting and migrating solutions, balancing immediate business impact with sustainable platform development.
  • Partner with upstream and downstream teams (Service Producers, Metering, Core Monetizer, Finance, FinOps, Control Plane) for seamless data flow, accurate billing, and enhanced debuggability, traceability, and correctness across the data pipeline.
