Legal Policy Specialist

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in content moderation, law, policy, operations or related fields.
  • Experience in project management and legal or content moderation support operations.
  • Experience in policy development or vendor guidance drafting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with internet technologies and related policy and regulatory environments.
  • Experience with SQL and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent communicator with great people and presentation skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate in English and German, or any of the following languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish or Arabic fluently to support legal compliant management in this region.

Trust & Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. YouTube Legal Operations is dedicated to ensure that YouTube is a place for users, viewers, and creators around the world to belong, create, and express themselves. Whether understanding and solving their online content concerns, navigating within global legal frameworks, or writing and enforcing worldwide policies. The team enhances the YouTube experience, building internet safety, and protecting free speech in our ever-evolving digital world.

As a Legal Policy Specialist, you will work on tasks within the scope of a policy project that have meaningful impact with direct supervision. You will address day-to-day policy issues and develop an understanding of policy development and implementation. You will also engage in community contributions to improve our culture and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Process removal requests efficiently and accurately, including trademark issues, privacy issues, defamation issues, court orders, law enforcement requests and requests from government agencies.
  • Respond to internal and external customer inquiries regarding YouTube's legal removals processes.
  • Work within a team to identify and improve processes, operational quality and scalability.
  • Assist in developing internal and external educational materials, and in designing new workflows to support the strategic directions of the business. Review graphic, controversial and sometimes offensive video content.
  • Be available for occasional remunerated on-call coverage during the weekend (~1-2 times per quarter).
