Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of Government Affairs and Public Policy experience.
- Experience leading a team of professionals and experience with Government Affairs and Public Policy in Asia markets.
Preferred qualifications:
- Public-speaking experience and passion for Internet policy issues.
- Familiarity with internet technologies and the policy and political environments that surround them.
- Ability to grow in a fast moving environment.
- Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex technical and regulatory issues.
- Excellent personal, political, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
About the job
The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators, and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, understand others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.
As Director, you will represent Google externally at executive levels with government, regulators, and third-parties, and also manage our team of policy professionals. You will be responsible for determining and managing our key policy campaigns in-country and also for coordinating with cross-functional peers locally and with colleagues across Google’s global Government Affairs and Public Policy organization.
In this role, you will utilize organizational and planning skills and have a keen focus on getting things done. You will be an empowering manager, capable of supporting and growing the team, ensuring that the team delivers at high levels. You will be an experienced Government Affairs and Public Policy professional, utilizing experience in the field, and as an engaging networker and public speaker. You will have passion for the opportunities that the Internet can help deliver.
Responsibilities
- Represent Google externally at the highest levels of policy-making and Government in South East Asia and South Asia Frontier, including Indonesia.
- Support the Vice President and Engage with Public Affairs and Policy teams specifically on APAC velocity strategy and implementation.
- Help build a network of trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, and others to support policies that will help create/maintain a user-focused online environment and an open Internet.
- Lead and empower the Government Affairs and Public Policy team supporting South East Asia and South Asia Frontier, including Indonesia.
- Ensure relevant and timely internal communications and information flow locally and vis-a-vis global colleagues.
