Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of professional experience in software engineering.
  • 15 years of experience leading in a technical capacity or leading technical risk analysis in an enterprise environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 10 years of experience in information security, data privacy, standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with common controls frameworks; risk assessments, and regulatory review and obligations decomposition; translating regulatory requirements into operational realities.
  • Experience aligning security with business outcomes in a medium-large organization, and in a role negotiating and influencing senior leadership across the organization.
  • Knowledge of security, distributed systems, access controls, usability.
  • Demonstrated success leading technical engineering teams that build and operate security-related services.

In this role you’ll be responsible for driving Google’s Obligation Response to emerging and imminent regulations and compliance objectives in partnership with internal teams and our Google Product Areas. You will interface with executives, act as a risk owner, and be responsible for driving consensus-based improvements in Google’s overall regulatory obligation response. Working collaboratively across the company, you will design and influence the technology and operations that will ensure Google’s compliance with high-visibility regulations. You will work with internal partners to set and drive the regulatory response roadmap for your portfolio of work, inline with the company’s regulatory objectives. The teams you build and run will find innovative ways to deliver on a complex mission, balancing the speed of delivery for the business with an ever-changing threat landscape.

As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $349,000-$485,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with senior leaders across the organization, build and own the technical strategy for managing emerging regulatory-related risk for the company.
  • Resolve escalations where risk and business goals conflict.
  • Go beyond the obvious and devise innovative solutions to solve whole classes of problems.
  • Partner with internal and external entities to drive industry-wide improvements in scalable regulatory technologies, roadmaps, vision, and processes.
  • Build and maintain a safe, collaborative culture in a growing team of privacy, risk, and regulatory response professionals.
