Industry Relations Manager

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Law, Political Science, International Relations, Public Relations or a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working within the advertising tech industry in functions such as industry relations, public policy and partnerships.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience working with/within government, think tanks, public interest groups, technology industry groups, or corporate public policy organizations.
  • Deeper understanding of the business and public policy landscape facing Google and the digital advertising industry in Australia/New Zealand markets.
  • Familiarity with advertising, tech, and trade associations.
  • Proven ability as an effective public speaker and communicator.
  • Adept relationship builder capable of fostering trust externally, with proven track record of working successfully in complex, cross-functional environments and influencing without authority.
  • Entrepreneurial, independent, and a solutions driven mindset.

Industry Relations is a dynamic team dedicated to shaping the future of the advertising industry, with a focus on driving critical awareness, accelerating key business priorities, and cementing Google's leadership in the industry. The role is often associated with diplomacy: building and managing crucial external relationships (i.e., the most influential trade bodies, industry associations and self-regulatory organizations in the market, representing the company's perspective, fostering trust, and navigating complex and unchartered environments). A core responsibility of this role is to provide GBO leaders with crucial industry insights and intelligence. You will play a pivotal role at the intersection of technology, public policy, and advertising ecosystem, leveraging this unique opportunity to forge strategic partnerships, shape industry standards and frameworks, and ensure Google remains a trusted, central player.

Our mission is to Mitigate External Risks & Increase Trust in Google’s products and solutions by securing a voice at the table, earning industry validation, and driving the industry's vision through our distinctive business ethos, and innovative solutions to the defining issues impacting the industry today.

You will be at the heart of fostering trust and consensus within the industry, addressing issues such as AI, privacy, measurement, responsible media, sustainability, etc. You will build and maintain a deep understanding of local and regional advertising dynamics, including industry politics, challenges, and regulatory priorities and act as the ‘canary in the coalmine’ for Google’s country and regional leadership.

Global marketing done right is becoming more challenging due to fast-changing consumer expectations, changes in individual market landscapes, and the rate of technological change. At its core, Global Clients and Agency Solutions (GCAS) helps leading brands, trade bodies and marketing partners navigate this complexity so that they can continue to be the market makers who positively shape our industry. Everyday, we help our partners fully utilize Google’s products, talent and insights to advance their marketing performance and the advertising ecosystem at large. Whether through building stronger tech and media foundations, surfacing cutting edge insights or structuring industry dialogue, GCAS helps shape what’s next into now.

Responsibilities

  • Build and cultivate strategic relationships with industry associations, groups, regulators, think-tanks, and policy-shapers. Develop and implement joint partnership plans with industry bodies, understanding their goals and aligning to Google's objectives.
  • Monitor, research and surface emerging business, regulatory, and competitive intel to Google’s Leadership to inform business decisions.
  • Execute Industry Relations’ strategy and priorities in Australia, ensuring full alignment with the global Industry Relations strategic vectors. Contribute to and shape content at industry events, including preparing briefing documents for Leadership.
  • Work cross-functionally, driving consensus (GAPP, Privacy Partnerships, Country Leadership, GTM,  Marketing, Sales, Comms, Legal) to craft Google's perspective and actions on initiatives. Serve as an industry expert within your regional team, collaborating closely with internal policy teams on shared objectives and incident response.
  • Frame complex issues, providing clear structure to Google execs to navigate challenging situations.
