Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the design, development, and delivery of high-quality watch faces and applications for the Pixel Watch. You'll work on challenging problems, collaborate with a group of Engineers, Designers, and Product Managers, and have a significant impact on the future of the Pixel Watch experience. You will have opportunities to lead projects, mentor and manage junior engineers, and shape the technical direction of our team.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Help grow and manage a high-performing team of software engineers as a Tech Lead Manager.
  • Design, develop, and test high-quality, performant code for watch faces and applications, using Kotlin/Java and other relevant technologies.
  • Collaborate with product and design teams to translate product requirements into technical designs and implementations.
  • Contribute to and review technical design documents, ensuring code quality, testability, and adherence to best practices. Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other engineers.
  • Explore and prototype new features and technologies. Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in wearable development. Contribute to the definition of the long term technical strategy for the team. Comply with all company health and safety policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
